Memorial Day Weekend

Derek and I loaded up Wyatt and headed to Tipton on Saturday night for Memorial Day. Most importantly was my cousin Tanner's graduation from Tipton H.S. He had been busy competing in the State Track meet earlier that weekend where he finished 2nd in the 2oom, 3rd in the 100m, 5th in the 4x100m, and 6th in the 200m.

At Tanner's graduation dinner, he opened one of his presents early (by request of his dad, Archie). It was the toilet seat!!! This is a rotating gift, received at big events in your life like weddings, graduations, and 0 birthdays, like 30 40 or 50.) Last time I got the toilet seat was when Derek and I got married (Kit got it when we graduated from THS). It was sort of hard to explain to Derek's family! Tanner, Derek is turning 30 in June, it would be a good time to pass it off!

The other big even of the weekend was the 33rd Lone Elm Turtle Race, held at the Zion Lutheran school grounds. Turtles are placed in the middle bucket and released at the same time. The fist one to reach the outer ring wins their race! This is kind of a big deal around Southern Cooper County! The youth group from my church had a concession stand and there are a LOT of people there as you can see by this picture.

Kind of hard to see the turtles in the middle, not because they are moving so fast (Ha!) but because they match the grass, something about survival I guess. If they were so worried about survival, they should stay of the blacktops.

Wyatt and I just placed his turtle in the ring for our race. There are a lot of extra turtles brought to the race for people like us, visiting and without shell. They raced 5 at a time and had 37 races (5x37= 185 turtles!!!) We didn't win but we had fun!
